"Was sort of apprehensive about reading this, as it was recommended to me because of a loved one who suffers from bipolar disorder. I thought it might deepen my concern with no clear benefit. Turned out to be a fascinating, well-written account of struggles with the disorder, on top of the vicissitudes of life and career in the medical profession (especially emergency medicine). You get to appreciate the author's candor and concern for his family as well as for the reader. The author is to be commended for his willingness to open himself up in an effort to help the many who suffer from this and other misunderstood mental health issues. I'd recommend it for anyone who either suffers from a mental illness or is close to someone who does."
"Dr. Diven gives a straight forward, honest account of his life with bipolar disorder. This book is the one I have been looking for to share with others who want to learn more about bipolar, not scary, just a thorough description of normal life and how it looks from the inside. Thoughtful and brief and accurate and well put together. Letter format makes it easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this book."
"Dr. Diven (now a successful practicing physician for several decades) writes straight from his heart and soul, non stop. He takes us along with him on his dark journey through mood swings, anxiety, self-medication with drugs and painful interactions with family and friends who blessedly never give up supporting him. This is a wonderful combination of a confessional and a story of redemption with a good ending."
